Led by professional tutors, over the last 30 years the company has been encouraging young singers and performers and has generated some of the top international opera singers of today.
Bedfordshire Youth Opera has provided inspiration for numerous Bedfordshire and Luton students and it has been the starting point for some of the very best operatic and musical theatre talent that the country has produced. It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in singing, acting, dancing and performing.
For this year's anniversary production we have chosen to perform Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. The Marriage of Figaro is one of the world's best loved operas. Based on Beaumarchais' play, it is a delightful mix of farce and melodrama tinged with tragedy and romance, heavily influenced by the Commedia dell'Arte tradition, all set to some of Mozart's most beautiful music. To celebrate their 30th Anniversary, Bedfordshire Youth Opera are revisiting this wonderful piece in a new production which promises to be both touching and very funny. Mischievous plots, cunning disguises, mistaken identities and a broken flower pot combine to produce a night to remember.
The performances will take place at the University of Bedfordshire Theatre, Polhill Avenue, Bedford from Monday 30 August - Saturday 04 September 2010 (excluding Wed 01). Tickets are now on sale and available from the Central Box Office 01234 269519 or www.bedfordcornexchange.co.uk
This year is very special as it’s our 30th Anniversary and to celebrate this, we are hosting a ‘Gala Evening’. We are very excited to have a number of ex-members returning to sing solos from the BYO repertoire, including Rachel Nicholls, Fred Broom, Donna Loomans, Russell Matthews, Carolyn Sampson, Simon Bailey, Tyler Clarke and Kitty Whately. Some of these singers are now international soloists and others are up and coming stars of the future. Along with these various solo pieces, there will also be a selection of ensemble numbers which the chorus from the main show will be performing, chosen from our 30 year repertoire, this will include numbers from Carmen, Sweeney Todd, Candide, Dido and Aeneas and many more. It will definitely be a night to remember, celebrate and reminisce!
